it really gets on my nerves whenever a person says im only into fine dining. sure, i dont mind it. extravagant tasting menus with unfamiliar ingredients open my eyes and then what? they are never the things i crave when im hungry or homesick. they barely even cross my mind when i think about food. what i appreciate more is the simple traditional dishes, in most cases, ones i grew up eating.
housemade country Style Green Bean Sheet Jelly 凉粉 – this supposed to be 东北凉皮，al dente noodle like dish. the waitress told us they cant make the noodle, instead they made the green bean sheet jelly, a soft version of the noodles. i expected it to be jelly like, not chewy at all, but it was actually pretty chewy and almost like the noodle version. the noodle version is almost impossible to find in the states, so i was super satisfied with this.
Beef and Potato with Brown Sauce 土豆炖牛肉 – this is a very simple traditional chinese dish, but this one at fu run was mind blowing good. the beef was melt in your mouth tender and the potato was fried then stewed to perfection. i had nostalgia when i was eating this.
Muslim lamb chop – this is the thing to get at fu run. it’s more like lamb rack than lamb chop. coated with spices and cumin. crispy skin while juicy and tender inside packed with bold flavors. the meat jus flop off the bone with a gentle poke.
salt and pepper frog with fried garlic – if you never had frog before, it tastes kinda like chicken but 1000 times more delicate and tender. i LOVE frogs but sadly i can hardly get it in boston. the batter and the texture of the frog were jus right altho i wish it had a little more flavor.
this was the BEST chinese meal ive had in recent memory. there is some decent chinese food in boston, but none of them is china good. food at fu run is china good. as authentic as it gets; they are exactly i would find in restaurants in china. so just shut up and eat!
