Gaja Moc Japanese Restaurant | Lomita, CA Los Angeles | How to make Okonomiyaki

pork belly likes okonomiyaki which i dont care much for. he dragged me to gaja japanese restaurant for our 3rd lunch one day we were in cali. gaja japanese restaurant is a grill-it-yourself okonomiyaki establishment where the server brings a bowl of raw ingredients then the customers mix and grill at their tables.

they serve a variety of fruit draft beer and we got the blueberry one.

okonomiyaki is a japanese savory pancake containing a variety of toppings and ingredients. ‘okonomi’ means ‘what you like’ and ‘yaki’ means ‘cooked’ or ‘grilled’.

there is an instruction sheet. if you dont feel like making it yourself, you could have them make it for you in the kitchen, but it’s relatively easy to make and the servers are pretty helpful if you have questions.

so lets make some okonomiyaki.

you wanna grill the meat/seafood and the batter separately

once the meat and seafood are cooked, combine with the pancake

put more batter on top

flip it so both sides get cooked evenly

here’s some cooking in action

now dress the okonomiyaki with toppings

there you have it. delicious okonomiyaki

i like mine with a lot of aonori (seaweed flakes), katsuobushi (bonito flakes) and NO mayonnaise. i hate mayonnaise.

it was fun to make our own okonomiyaki. they do have pretty good looking desserts but we were too full to try it out. the owner and waitress were super helpful and friendly. draft beers were tasty. it’s worth to check it out if you like okonomiyaki.
