we took my mom to sarma last night for an early mother’s day dinner since pork belly left to the west coast today.
sarma, the lastest addition to ana sortun’s restaurant empire, continues to serve eastern mediterranean and turkish inspired flavors. it has been opened for a while, but it took me a while to visit sarma since i wasnt so impressed by oleana. although i enjoyed the appetizers at oleana very much, the entrees were huge disappointments. sarma looked promising since they serve mainly tapas, small plates that are similar to the appetizers at oleana, so i thought i’d give it a try.
although the majority of the food we ordered was tasty and enjoyable, i still find the same problems as we had at oleana: the (red) meats dishes were disappointing. the lamb was extremely tough and bland; i didnt like the bbq duck either. i would stick with seafoods & veggies, but avoid red meat dishes at sarma if i come again. overall, it’s a good place to get drinks and snack on some food. the dessert menu is weak, but it doesnt bother me. i’d rather have no desserts than to have something super heavy like the baked alaska from oleana. service was great; they also walk around with a few off menu food items like the fried chicken we had, so keep that in mind when you place your order.
