currently live in Los Angeles area. this blog has a collection of restaurant reviews, food adventures, and more, focusing on LA, boston, NYC, and virginia area. made in china, raised in beijing, spent my teenager years in bedford, ma, graduated from syracuse university double majoring in accounting and finance, worked as an accountant in boston for 4 year, just moved to LA and seeking a new career. ive always been interested in arts from photography to designs.
i am no expert. never taken any courses on food, wine, photography, or anything related. i am biased because food is personal and simply a preference. i am not a fan of all pretentious bs. food should be fresh, simple, honest, straightforward, available, and most importantly enjoyable. im not a critic; i have a psychological connection with food that isn’t based on any refined tastes but simply an association between food and warmth and love. growing up as a only child with divorced and career driven parents, somehow the idea of having a family meal became my picture of happiness.
i appreciate all good food from fine french/italian to mcdonald’s ice cream cone to my grandma’s cooking. Extravagant tasting menus with unfamiliar ingredients open my eyes, but I appreciate more of the very well-made simple dishes that really tell about a culture and a story like Cacio e Pepe for the romans, beef noodle soup for Taiwanese, or zha jian mian for us Beijing’er. They don’t necessarily have mind blowing flavors, but they are the basic things that define who we are and always go back to no matter how great that tasting menu was. my mission is to find that best ‘bowl of beef noodles’ as opposed to eating at every michelin star restaurant in the world (although i would love to).
this blog is a memoir. that moment i shared with that someone at the dinner table whether its porkbelly, a friend, family, an ex, or a stranger, that conversation after that bottle of wine or that that rude host ruined my night, that moment we all reached orgasm in our mouth together, that celebration and the toast, that laughter, that argument, that hundred dollar tip, that drunk friend and whatever happened afterwards, that dirty look when i busted out my dslr, that similarity i shared with a total stranger, that story behind that dish, that long walk on a hot summer night… all started or ended from that dinner table. food is bigger than food.
all images, words, and opinions are the property of the website owner and absolutely no content can be used WITHOUT prior PERMISSION EVEN WITH APPROPRIATE CREDITS GIVEN.
i do try to keep my blog somewhat informative or unbiased for readers as i write; however, i have no intentions or incentives to keep this blog professional because this blog is for my own entertainment.
any questions and concerns, i (La La) can be reached @ bunnyandporkbelly [at] gmail [dot] com
im open to events, photoshoots, reviews, or even a new career.

hey lala! great photo blog. I am just starting my own blog as well and was wondering if you had some recommendation for camera lens. i have a canon rebel t2i. cute blog name and great pics!
thanks a lot for your kind comment. every lens delivers different characters it really depends on what you are gonna shoot. as for food pictures or portraits, a lens with an aperture of 1.8 or 2 would be nice.
this was shot using the 50mm f/1.8.

Thanks for stopping by and following. You’ve got some great work here!
Thanks for visiting my blog and for following, I really appreciate it.
Very nice food photography. How do you manage the lighting in all the places you visit? It looks like more than an on-camera flash and I can’t imagine those restaurants have such nice studio lighting at their tables!
thanks haha. lighting at some of the restaurants is almost non-existent, sometimes i even have hard time reading the menu. a decent camera would allow me to take somewhat good pix at low light setting and the rest is the magic of photoshop 🙂
Well, then you’re really good with Photoshop. The images are very clear and enticing.
I’ve been to a few of those type restaurants as well. I keep a small LED flashlight on my keychain just so I can read the menu!
Your photos are absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for finding me so I could find you!
Thank you for following my blog. I’m glad someone just asked you about the lighting in your restaurant pictures. I was wondering the same thing.
Thanks for the follow – your photos are beautiful! They remind me of how much I miss visiting the US. Best, Nick

You foodie adventures sound delish…when I find myself in that part of the world again I’m going to use your blog as a resource.
For now I just arrived in Florence, Italy…and there’s some amazing food and wine here…in fact I’m going offline for a few days to take it all in!
It’s nice to meet you! Your food photos are making me hungry 🙂
Thanks for checking out my blog! I love all your food photos! It looks like we’ve been to some of the same places. 🙂
Hi BunnyandPorkBelly, thanks for checking out my blog! One question for you, how did you get your blog address in your photographs? Did you do that in Lightroom 4? How do you like Lightroom 4? Did you buy any books to help you learn the program or did you upgrade from Lightroom 3? I am thinking about purchasing it. Love that you listed your photo gear, I am also interested in knowing what other people shoot with. Have a good night!
that sounds more like 4 questions than one question hahahah. kidding.
1. if you use lightroom, it allows you to put watermark on when you export your pic. the address is a watermark that i created.
2. yes i use lightroom. i love it. i edit 80% of my pix using lightroom. more user friendly and easier than photoshop.
3. never read books, just play with it and practice. it’s much easier than photoshop.
hopefully this helps. let me know if you have other questions im willing to answer!
Thanks! I am thinking I am going to purchase the software sometime this week. I am serious about selling my work. I have been into photography since I was nine and started with a little baby blue 110mm camera. One more question(it really is just one). Do you sell any of your photographs?
No I haven’t sold my pix but I’ve had ppl offer to buy. I’m doing this jus for fun so I didn’t have the original copies of the ones that they wanted. Yea I’m not a serious photographer.
Most sites give you the option to sell digital copies or actual hard copy prints. I am considering buying a enlarger and chemicals this winter and printing my own black and white prints. I found a awesome lab out in California called The Darkroom, I still shot black and white film, with my Canon Rebel SII. My digital camera is a Canon D10, hoping to upgrade either this winter or spring.
Those are beautiful pictures.
you have an amazing blog! looking at all the photos make me hungry.. =D looking forward to more!
You’re blog alone is responsible for the inspiration of my midnight snack tonight. Job well done.
A good friend of mine and I started a similar blog about Detroit! Check out tuesdaysaturday.wordpress.com to see what we get into! Take care.
Mouth-watering food photography. Shame I don’t live around there, your photos and opinions on the restaurants would give me incentive to try them out!

I love the idea of your blog and can’t wait to get reading =D
You know what? I Love your photography, keep on clicking!
great blog also. i am in california, but love the photos and personal touch.
Love your pics, they look so good I could probably gain weight from them 🙂
Wow – the food here looks incredible. Look forward to seeing more. M 🙂
You have a beautiful blog! Love your pictures! 😉 Definitely following! 🙂
Thanks for following my blog. I have family in the metro DC area, and I love trying out new restaurants. I’ll have to check out your blog in the future for references when visiting there. I love the ambiance of the Barroco restaurant in Montreal – I’ll put that on my list!
I love yours! Mostly because it has lots of food on it, and I love food! Can’t wait to see some more of your great photos 🙂
Your photography is amazing and the food looks simply mouth-watering.
I love your attitude towards food, I think mine is similar, that’s why I’m following yours! 🙂
Like your perspective on food. Yes u don’t have to be an expert to know what food taste good & u enjoy =)
Thanks for visiting and following my blog! I love seeing your posts pop up in my reader even if they do make me hungry 🙂 My family and I came to Boston for the 4th of July this year and I thought it was just the best thing ever.
I saw that you had a tapas review and I have a suggestion for you. As we were walking to the riverside for the fireworks, we came across Kika Tapas (on the Cambridge side). It looked brand new like they had just opened or something. Lemme tell ya – best place to go as a family. Everyone chose a tapas and we all shared. We all left full and everything was delicious. My favorites – the wild mushrooms, lobster/crab raviolis, scallops in saffron cream, and the lamb meatballs in truffle cream sauce (I’ll never look at a meatball the same way again…)
Happy blogging!
“… food should be fresh, simple, straightforward, available, and most importantly enjoyable.”
I couldn’t agree more! And you run quite a delectable blog! If only I could it whole (just kidding!) Oh,and thanks for dropping by my page ^^
Hey,
You have a good blog here.
Well, I don’t have much idea about photography or cameras, but yup, in the case of eating and enjoying what I eat I am a pro (but not in cooking).
Will drop by to get hold of some new dishes from your blog. And I should say, u luk really pretty. 🙂

Really cool blog you got here!
more happy trails to you and your boyfriend, Pork Belly!

Oh my goodness, beautiful pictures. I’m sure the food you’ve eaten taste even better than they look! 🙂
Hi bunny!
I very much like the essential, elegantly minimalist look of your blog. I also like your reviews… and the names you picked for the two of you are to die for! 🙂
Take care!
Goodness Gracious, this blog makes me hungry!
ur blog is just great…. it really looks yummy…..
Omg! Your blog makes me sooo hungry. I love your stuff. I’ll be following you so that I can drool from staring at your food blog :L lolol.
I love that you listed restaurants by city – I will definitely have to circle back here next time I trek outside of Austin 🙂
What a neat blog you have…keep it up!
I’ve just had a look through a few of your posts and the food looks delicious. I look forward to reading your future posts. 🙂
You sound like a girl after my own heart! btw, I grew up in N.VA, in Fairfax Co. I haven’t been back in many years, but my son just took his wife and little girls out there. Enjoy it!
Looking at your photos, you baked some nice stuff.
I look forward to reading some more of your blog! I Hope You Enjoy The Journey!
How’z porkbelly? And of my cuisine list, you are my nomination for One Lovely Blog Award.
Here’s the link:

Congratulations!
I went to school in the East Coast so I miss NY and Boston; I’ll have to live vicariously through your blog 😉 Happy dining & sharing!!
Hey there! I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. To accept and participate visit: http://tamaraleighauthor.wordpress.com/2012/10/12/kitchen-novelist-blog-nominated-for-very-inspiring-blogger-award/ P/S: This stuff is new to me, so I hope I’m doing it right 🙂
Bonjour
Hi! I started looking through your posts and pictures and I am amazed, what great work! Food photography is something I’m stumbling through and would like to learn more about…looking forward to future posts!
Great food and restaurant photos! Keep it up!
Yours makes me hungry for the east coast. Here in Michigan we don’t have many good restaurants, so we content ourselves with what delictables we can cook ourselves.
Boy, TELL me about it! I’m in exile in the middle of Kentucky, which cannot decide if it wants to be Midwestern or Southern; hence my blog. The people here know nothing about food or entertaining.
so glad we found one another in this blog world, i can’t wait to peruse your take on the boston dining scene. who knows, maybe we’ll pump into each other in this little city of ours!
Bunny and PorkBelly, I’ll check out your Boston recommendations when I’m up to run marathon in the spring.
Hi, B&PB
I love your photos — you have an eye for color and composition not often seen in the blogiverse. I look forward to see more!
I look forward to the inspiration of your food photos–I am terrible at taking pictures of food and need to get better at it! Great blog!
You have some interesting topics. I intend to return.
Hello Bunnyand PorkBelly (what a great name!)
I hope to have more foody-like stories to share with you.
iRuniBreathe
Photos look great! I’m definitely going to check out the Ramen Fest in NYC next year.
I look forward to seeing more of yours. I love food too!
I’m so excited to find your blog! One of my favorite things to do is to follow my husband around when he has to travel for work, and he frequently goes to Virginia/DC and Boston – two of my favorites places. While there, my job is to scout out the best places to eat and entertain, and we often stay over a few days for some time together – just the two of us. Your blog will help tremendously! For fun, we often visit NYC. We were there a couple of months ago with friends and did a Margarita pizza crawl. What fun!
Looks like you lead a very exciting life! 🙂
I really enjoyed looking around your blog!
I can’t wait to comb through your DC recs – I have lots of family there.
I’ve been enjoying your posts–looks like you had fun at your party. Just wanted to let you know that I’ve been thinking about you and praying for your safety in the Hurricane Sandy storm. Hope you’re able to stay home and enjoy some great food as you wait out the storm! Blessings!
Thank you for sharing your talent and passion for food and travel here. Two more of my favorite subjects!
arrive to a feast of the most beautiful photos of my favourite subject – food! I was feeling hungry anyway, and now I am ravenous…
My folks live on the east coast so I will make sure to stroll through to find some good eats whilst visiting them. Enjoy life!
Hi,
I’ve just been reading some of your blog… I really like it… You seem like a nice and down to earth person (I like that you appreciate things like McDonald’s ice cream. Fast food and cheap food doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad food… Likewise expense doesn’t always mean quality – as you found at the Gallows place in Boston..)
I think you have done some really good work anyway…
Great pictures, I’ll make sure to try some these addresses if I pass around.
Your pics are yummy and yearn worthy!
Keep on writing, great job!
Hey! I nominated you for a Sunshine Award! If you’re interested in participating, there is more info here: http://thoughtsquestionsqueries.wordpress.com/2012/11/12/celebrate-the-sunshine-award/
Congrats!
Great philosophy – food should be enjoyable, well presented is of course nice, but not pretentious. Well done!
Your skin is like porcelain, beautiful. It’s refreshing to read someone’s admission that “99% of my photos” are Photoshoped.
Really impressed with the website, sincerely, Dr. Jones,
You have a pretty cool site! I wish you all the best, Diana
I have nominated you for the Sunshine Blog Award. What does this mean? Not sure… You need to answer some questions and stuff… Suss my post on the award.

Hi Bunny! You’re as cute as your handle, or is that your
I look forward to reading about the restaurants in your area!
For not having any formal training in photography, your food pictures are incredible.
I shared your site for the “Very Inspiring Blogger Award”. Thank you for your wonderful inspiration.
Hey, thanks for following. And thanks for giving me the opportunity to stumble on your blog. what a great blog. I always wanted to travel and eat. The sad part is every time I get to travel, its a short amount of time so most of the time is spent on those tourist areas; If I had the time and money, I’d love to go around to places like Anthony Bourdaine and by pass the tourists areas and go eat what the locals are having!
that’s some yummy looking food you have there, and glad to see you have toured the montreal culinary scene: next up Vancouver! Thanks for the follow and keep up the delicious work.
Hi there.
I love the pics of food you have put up on your blog- the flavour jumps right out of it. Makes me wanna eat the pics itself! 😉

I don’t know why or how, but I have also been receiving emails of people commenting on YOUR blog! I am confused as to how this is happening and don’t know how to fix it! I noticed that you got the last one from Shalzmojo so at least you are getting them as well. Hope you can figure it out! 🙂
You have some absolutely stunning photos, and if I’m ever in the US I’ll be checking out some of the best places to eat from your recommendations!

After reading your post (and more importantly, drooling over the photos of the food) about the Nanxiang Bun Shop I wish they could do delivery.
I saw your title, and I immediately thought of Chinese food-specialty – I see I wasn’t far off the mark! 🙂 And now, I admit that I’m a little hungry for some “bao”, preferably stuffed with BBQ-pork (叉燒)!
Beautiful blog! You are a very talented photographer!
Keep shooting!!

Love your stuff!
I am having a lot of fun eating my way through China. Currently in Zhejiang (Hangzhou) eating farmer food. I really should think about getting a better camera for my food shots, but I almost never take pictures. I prefer not being behind a lens. Who knows we might meet up in China and celebrate food 🙂
Love what you’re doing! You got yourself a new follower 🙂

I love the pics on your blog. I’m following now! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.
Thanks for sharing your work and thoughts on creating good photos.
Love your passion for good food. I’ve been to Taiwan a couple times and remember having some type of noodle soup there…While it looked simple, it was amazing. I’ve not had any noodle dish since that was quite as delicious. I’m chasing the noodle soup dragon. Well, there was a place in Chinatown NYC that was comparable… almost.
mànmàn chī!
Best pictures of food and resturaunts I’ve ever seen, so colourful and the expressions of all the staff when cooking are pricess. My mouth is watering at the cold noodle/vegetable and fish dishes. Very healthy and what an adventure going around the decor and streets too of Boston. My grandpa’s sister Margaret(Meg) used to write to me from Boston over 40 years ago and though I been in the States did not see Boston. I love Oriental/Asian Food. Prize-winning photos. Thanks for this and for looking into my blog too.
love it!
I am a New Yorker living in Texas BUT Boston is my favorite city! Should you ever make it down this way let me know and I’ll direct your taste buds to some very good and very simple great food!
My husband’s family lives in Boston and my husband and I go there once or twice a year. We’re vegan, and I’m wondering if you ever review any vegan or vegan-friendly restaurants. Your reviews are wonderful – the photos are amazing.
Love your introduction….your writing style &. Your blog. -K
I just had some Bangkok 54 Thai food two days ago in Arlington. I’d say 90 percent of the food is pretty damn good, but they went a little heavy on the heat for the thai basil chicken. I needed a sweat towel afterward. I enjoy your posts. Keep the D.C. restaurant reviews coming!
I love your blog, great photos! I look forward to following.
Your photo quality is fantastic. The food looks beautiful! I have just started in the blogging world, but looking at your pictures is making me want to invest in a better camera. Your blog is a joy to read 🙂

Much like the lovely blogger who nominated me, I generally don’t participate in these awards things. (I know, I know, EVERYONE says that), but I thought the WordPress Family Award was actually pretty special, decided to spread the love, and nominated you. Stop by my latest post accepting the award for details if you’re interested (http://wp.me/pwIUF-5B )…I promise I won’t be offended if you’re not though. I know a lot of people don’t do these things. Cheers!

Hi La La,
Nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by. Your about post has reminded me of an unfinished ramble I had written down (but not posted) on treating food in a pretentious manner. Am definitely with you, in that food snobbery drives me up the wall, for that, to me, it should be simple, good, and honest.
I look forward to salivating over your posts moving forward!
Regards,
Luisa
I love your down to earth approach to food and i especially love what you said about everyone searching for their own version of the perfect beef noodle soup. I’ve nominated Bunny and Pork Belly for the Versatile Blogger Award:

Just a quick message to say thanks for following my blog. Today I reached 300 followers. i know that’s not much of a milestone for most bloggers, but I really do appreciate every single person who appreciates something about my photos or thoughts enough to follow my blog, especially when they take great photos as you do – I take it as a great compliment. Thanks again, and I’m glad I discovered your blog as well – I’m not particularly generous with my follows, but yours is well worth it.
